The Selection and Design of Mill Liners

The type of materials used for liner construction is very important and, in principle, depending on the type of application of the liner, the materials to be used for its construction are chosen and are usually made with materials that are hand-made, cast or moulded are ready.

Due to the function of the machine, as well as the amount of crushed stone, the size of the mill, the degree of corrosion and erosion, the size of the balls, the speed of the mill, and many other things, they have to choose construction materials. The important thing to keep in mind is that liner design and material of construction should be built seamlessly and integral. Therefore, in the design of the liner, the materials should be seamlessly integrated and should not be separated.

Today, steel is considered as one of the traditional materials for the construction of a variety of primary applications or some secondary uses for mills, and there is still no better substitute for it, which can provide better durability and performance than steel. But despite the type of milling applications and the strengths of each of the steel sheets, there is a list of steel types for this purpose to make mills.

Austenitic Manganese steel (AMS):

This kind of steel is usually used to make smaller mills that operate on grid lines or smaller mills with a lighter application. Because of its ability to work well under extreme pressure and stress, it is still able to maintain its hard substrate and continue to work without breaking or fractures, making the best of these types of mills possible.

But given that these types of sheets are spreads with impact, which causes the solid layers to begin to squeeze together, it is very difficult to remove it and, if it creates a high and severe surface tension, is dangerous and can be Damage to a mills shell.

Low Carbon Chrome Moly Steel (300 to 370BHN):

This kind of sheet has a very good durability and is often used to manufacture AG, SAG and Ball liners before upgrading to higher carbon content steel.

This type of sheet has excellent impact resistance and also a very good durability and impact resistance and best type of sheet wear. Currently, this type of sheet is mainly used to construct discharge graters where the impact resistance is slightly better than high carbon chromium moly steel or as thin sectional liners.

High Carbon Chrome Moly Steel (325 to 380BHN):

Currently no steel is better than this type of steel as the main material for manufacturing SAG mill liners. However, for this kind of mills, the type of steel variations are changes in the content of different carbon or chromium.

Often, these changes are in the direction of better resistance and tolerance to the size of the liners and the thickness of their parts. However, it still works on the development of these parts and their resistance and tolerance, so that the size of the liners exceeds the standards provided by the standard Chrome moly steel.
